1. Traveling the World
I have been extremely fortunate in my short twenty four years to see more of the world than many people twice my age. As often as I feel homesick, mostly just to see my crazy family :) I realize I need to soak in these moments. I know I will settle into life in the states again, and my restless soul will itch to live abroad again. I have been able to meet so many wonderful people and create a plethora of delightful memories.
2. Music
Another Radio Lab episode I listened to was about people who were born with sight, but through tragic events lost that ability. It created an interesting conversation about what sense you would be willing to lose. I would be devastated to never hear music again. I was able to purchase a guitar here in Bangkok, and thinking of not being able to hear the sounds of the strings would create a hole in my life. Even the sounds of the street and that occasional fire cracker boom on the soi outside our window that irritates us would be horrible to not experience. The laughter of friends, the crowded countdown of New Years Eve on the packed streets, the quiet passing of the river were all sounds that helped bring in this New Year.
3. Family
Most of you readers (all three that I am aware of) know I have a large family. I love getting together with the lot of them, and have missed that connection this holiday season. I did make phone calls, and was touched by my Grandad's joy of celebrating 61 years of marriage with his kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren all around. To know that so many people love and care for one another, no matter the miles between, give me strength to take on these adventures.
4. Friends
That word almost needs no explanation. Our closest friends become part of our family, and I was fortunate enough to have two of my very best friends visit for a short time. I love these ladies and I can't wait to travel more within them. :)
The short bliss list: (once again in no particular order)
Laughter, food, silence, seeing your breath on a cold day, books, puppies, movies, candles, lanterns, stars, mountain tops, beaches, clean sheets, Skype, milk tea, passport stamps, soft beds, air conditioning, "ah ha" moments, snail mail, guitars, pianos, smiles...
Ok, so the list isn't short, but I could go on for ages. There are so many things that bring me joy, I just have to be willing to open my heart and mind to them all. I hope that you can celebrate your blissful moments this year. My New Years Resolution? Try to recognize a moment of bliss for each day before I fall asleep. :)
Bliss is sharing with, seeing, hearing, listening to, talking with and reading notes from those you love, especially your children...Love Mom and Dad
